Abstract:
This project aims to enhance teaching and learning through establishing communities of practice across the University of Hong Kong (HKU). It contains two major tasks. One is to cultivate a community of practice and facilitate knowledge exchange on teaching and learning across the University. The other task is to conduct research on faculty members’ approaches in course and curriculum design. The two aspects of the project are closely related. Specifically, a community of practice on teaching and learning will enable the project team to better define the research problem while the research findings will in turn support the facilitation of an on-going dialogue among faculty members.
The objectives of the project are stated as follows:
- To cultivate a community of practice on teaching and learning among faculty members (knowledge exchange objective);
- To generate resources on higher education teaching and learning in order to assist faculty members in designing courses and the curriculum (knowledge exchange objective);
- To promote effective approaches in teaching, learning and assessment (knowledge exchange objective);
- To study faculty members’ approaches in course and curriculum design, in relation to a number of central themes, for example, internationalization, assessment, and student-centred learning (research objective)
